Analysts Say Hauling Capacity May Have Peaked
he number of heavy-duty trucks in use in the United States fell 0.6% in the third quarter, an indication that the expansion of hauling capacity by carriers may have peaked, according to industry analysts.
Market research firm R.L. Polk & Co. said there were 3.48 million Class 8 commercial vehicles on the road at the end of September, compared with 3.5 million at the end of June.
The number of vehicles is still up by 184,000 units, or 5.5%, over the 3.30 million Class 8 trucks in operation a year earlier.
