Union Pacific Corp. said Thursday its fourth-quarter profit rose to more than $1 billion on higher chemical, automobile and intermodal shipments.
Net income rose to $1.04 billion, or $2.19 per share, from $964 million, or $1.99, a year earlier.
Revenue rose 3% to $5.25 billion, the Western freight railroad said in a statement.
For the year, UP reported net income of $3.9 billion or $8.27 per share, up from $3.3 billion or $6.72, in 2011. Full-year revenue rose 7% to $20.9 billion.
