U.S. employers added 92,000 jobs in July while the unemployment rate rose to 4.6% from 4.5%, the Labor Department reported.
The jobs gain was below a revised 126,000 increase in June.
Manufacturers’ payrolls fell 2,000 last month after falling by 13,000 a month earlier. Service industries added 104,000 jobs, down from 133,000 in June.
The unemployment-rate gauge is based on a survey of households. The number of payroll jobs added is determined by a separate survey of business and government establishments.
