TSA Delays Fingerprint Rule for Hazmat Drivers to 2005
he Transportation Security Administration announced April 1 that it was delaying implementation until 2005 of its regulation that would have required fingerprint-based background checks of hazardous materials drivers this year.
In a notice posted on the Department of Transportation’s docket management Web site, TSA said it was amending its previously published rule and “changing the date on which fingerprint-based background checks must begin in all states to Jan. 31, 2005.”
Under its previous regulation, TSA had said state driver licensing authorities were to begin implementing the checks by April 1 or request a waiver to wait until December.
