Trucks Needed to Help ‘Mitch’ Victims
Mitch, which ravaged Central America last month, caused billions of dollars in damages and left an estimated 1.5 million people without food or shelter.
The Nicaraguan Independent Emergency Commission needs trucks to move food, medicine, clothes and other supplies from Baton Rouge, La., and Alton, Texas, to New Orleans.
Meanwhile Food Distributors International, an international trade association of food distribution companies, is coordinating its own relief effort. FDI is working with the United Nations World Food Program to get donated food to Central America. The food is located at several points throughout the U.S. and must be hauled to Houston.
Bob Gatty, FDI’s vice president of communications and marketing, can be reached at 703-532-9400.
