Truckload Driver Turnover Rate Is Close to All-Time High
Senior Reporter
he driver turnover rate at large truckload carriers hit 116% on an annualized basis in the second quarter of 2004, just three percentage points below the all-time high of 119%, as the competition for scarce drivers intensified, American Trucking Associations said.
The turnover rate at small TL carriers rose to an annualized 94%, ATA said, citing its quarterly survey covering “tens of thousands” of owner-operators and company drivers at truckload and less-than-truckload operations.
The increases reflected “simply the fierce competition for drivers,” ATA Chief Economist Bob Costello told Transport Topics Sept. 22.
