A lot of ideas are circulating about the qualities that the first head of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration ought to possess.
Some say that person should be a tough cop. Some maintain that an open mind toward the trucking business is more important, while others insist that the new leader must be free any semblance of coziness with trucking.
“It needs to be run by someone who has a law enforcement background and who understands and can interprefrom the ranks and . . . will speak out for motor carrier safety,” said Stephen Campbell, executive director of the organization.
