Trailer maker Wabash National Corp. said March 9 that it would raise new trailer prices 4.5% to 6%, effective immediately, because of cost hikes from suppliers of raw materials including steel, aluminum and wood.

Wabash Chief Executive Officer William Greubel said in a statement that during the past three years trailer prices had remained relatively stable, and in some cases declined, when materials costs were falling.

But he said the recent surge in steel and some other prices is forcing the company to pass those costs along.
