Truckers Could Play Major Security Role, Graves Tells ATA Leadership Meeting

img src="/sites/default/files/images/articles/printeditiontag_new.gif" width=120 align=right>WASHINGTON — Bill Graves, president of American Trucking Associations, told the trucking federation’s leadership last week that motor carriers could soon play a major role in ensuring the security of the nation’s roads.

Graves also said he had met recently with the acting administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Annette M. Sandberg, to discuss proposed regulations for the commercial drivers’ hours of service.

Graves told the federation’s winter leadership meeting Feb. 10 that he met with Deputy Transportation Secretary Michael Jackson and the head of the Transportation Security Administration, James Loy, to discuss the benefits of using federal funds to train truck drivers to be part of an anti-terrorist warning network.
