Nearly 400 truck drivers from around the United States will drive nine types of trucking industry vehicles in what American Trucking Associations calls the “Super Bowl of Safety.” ATA has held the championships, which is sponsored by ExxonMobil, annually since 1937.
Each contestant, who has qualified for the nationals by winning a state championship, will undergo a written test. A personal interview is also part of the process. Contestants are observed as they conduct a pre-trip inspection and maneuver through a
kills course featuring driving, stopping, parking, and backing-up challenges.
Awards will be made in nine truck categories: straight truck, 3-axle, 4-axle, 5-axle, tank truck, flatbed, 5-axle sleeper, twin trailer, and auto transporter.
