Honda Develops New Clean Diesel Engine

Honda announced last Tuesday it has developed a new diesel engine that is compliant with the Environmental Protection Agency’s Tier II Bin 5 requirements.

The engine features two-layer catalytic converter technology that significantly reduces emissions of nitrogen oxide, the automaker said in a statement.



Honda said it plans to debut the engine in the United States within 3 years.Transport Topics


Use of Wireless Technology on the Rise in Service and Utility Fleets

The use of wireless technology is on the rise amongst service and utility fleets, according to a new report released Monday by eyefortransport.

The report finds that 85% of survey respondents said they are utilizing wireless systems for tracking purposes, compared with 74% in 2005.

In addition, the report shows that 72% of respondents use the systems to improve driver communications, compared with 65% in 2005.

The report also finds that 68% of fleets polled use wireless systems for optimizing their routing and scheduling, compared with 50% last year. Transport Topics


Gulf Hydrocarbon Opens 24/7 Biodiesel Wholesale Pump in Indiana

Gulf Hydrocarbon said last Wednesday it has opened a new automated facility in Hammond, Ind., that offers 100% biodiesel fuel to wholesale customers 24 hours a day.

The facility allows tankers, transport trucks and rail cars to add 100% biodiesel, known as B100, to their diesel fuel mix, Gulf Hydrocarbon said in a statement.

The terminal will serve distributors in the Chicago area as well as North Central Illinois and Indiana, said Ron Richardson, distribution specialist for Gulf Hydrocarbon. Transport Topics
