Issues surrounding membership integration into American Trucking Associations poses the major challenge facing The Maintenance Council, Bill Wolterstorff believes.

Wolterstorff, fleet maintenance manager for Sather Trucking in Round Lake, Minn., will succeed Ken Johnson as chairman during TMC’s annual meeting, March 6-9, at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville, Tenn.

Wolterstorff’s term will be nearly over when the rules change Jan.1, 2001. At that point, the employer companies of TMC members must be dues-paying members of ATA. Employers who don’t join the ATA fold will find their people on the outside of TMC looking in. It’s a controversial move for an organization that has never before faced that kind of directive, and Wolterstorff expects much discussion on the subject during the coming year.

“We need to work together to resolve the different aspects of this move,” he said. “I know where those TMC members who are not members of ATA are coming from. I wasn’t a member until last year.”
