Swift Transportation Co. said its first-quarter net income rose to $23.4 million, or 17 cents per share, from $6.2 million, or 4 cents, a year ago.
Operating revenue rose to $856.8 million, from $827 million, Swift said late Monday.
Operating income for the quarter rose to $62 million from $58 million a year earlier.
Truckload segment revenue for the quarter rose to $560 million from $551 million a year earlier, while intermodal revenue rose to $77 million from $69 million.
Swift Transportation is ranked No. 7 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire.
