Stellantis Recalls 200,000 Plug-in Jeeps Over Fire Risk

Stellantis NV warned that nearly 200,000 plug-in hybrid Jeep SUVs worldwide .
The automaker is recalling about 154,000 late-model Wrangler 4xe (model years 2020-2024) and Grand Cherokee 4xe SUVs (2022-2024) in the United States due to the flaw, Stellantis said in a Sept. 30 statement. An estimated 14,038 vehicles in Canada are also affected, along with 673 in Mexico and 25,502 outside North America.
This recall is the latest setback for Stellantis, which has been grappling with declining sales, a falling stock price and unrest among dealers and unions. Stellantis shares plummeted after the company reduced its 2024 financial forecasts earlier on Sept. 30. The stock fell as much as 14% by 3:36 p.m. in New York, marking its largest intraday drop in more than four years.
Stellantis advised drivers to avoid recharging the plug-in hybrids, stating that “vehicle risk is reduced when the battery charge level is depleted.” The company also recommended that owners park their vehicles away from other vehicles and structures until a fix is ready, which Stellantis described as “imminent.”
