Smithsonian Institution Exhibit Shows 'America on the Move'
Displays Chronicle Growth of Highways, Trucking
ASHINGTON — Visitors can get their kicks walking on an actual piece of the famous Route 66 and get a feel for how the development of the interstate highway system and the trucking industry changed American life here at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History exhibit, “America on the Move.”
Other features include a 1984 model Peterbilt truck, clean and shiny in the familiar powder blue of Werner Enterprises, and a multi-media view of Los Angeles in 1999.
Additionally, truck maker Freightliner LLC and Trucker Buddy International represented the trucking industry here at a July 31 event called “The Open Road.” The event was held in conjunction with the Smithsonian exhibition.
