| Staff ReporterSize-Weight Study Goes to Congress
The first comprehensive study of truck sizes and weights since 1981 will await Congressional inspection this week. The four-volume set was delivered to Congress Aug. 31 by the Federal Highway Administration.
It presents five scenarios affecting size and weight limits. Some attention is devoted to improving productivity through various increases in truck dimensions. The study also discusses potential impacts of the scenarios.
A second option would phase out trailers longer than 53 feet, freeze state grandfather rights and freeze weight limits on the national system.
