Shipper-Carrier Code Stalls on Language
David Barnes
| Senior CorrespondentThe Truckload Carriers Association and the National Industrial Transportation League can’t agree on five words of the code that the two groups have worked for nearly two years to develop.
The practices are aimed at shippers, receivers, carriers and drivers. Shippers and receivers abiding by the code would pledge to treat drivers with courtesy and respect. They also would deal with carriers to assure that safe practices are followed, foster honesty, fairness and maintain safe practices. At the same time, carriers would promise to expedite the movement of equipment in and out of their dock areas.
