The Safety Management Council will debate integrating the responsibility for cargo claims and cargo security issues into its safety mandate during SMC’s annual meeting, continuing through Oct. 4 in St. Louis.
American Trucking Associations disbanded its Loss Prevention and Security Council in 1999 as part of the ATA reorganization. Since then, those involved with cargo issues have been searching for a new home — and it could be the Safety Management Council.
SMC’s Steering Committee was scheduled to discuss the integration proposal at an open meeting Oct. 2.
The committee will also consider a new name and new officer structure for SMC as well as proposed changes in the council’s bylaws.
