ualcomm Inc. said Tuesday it named Paul Jacobs to succeed his father, company founder Irwin Jacobs, as its chief executive officer.

Paul Jacobs, 42, is currently president of Qualcomm's wireless and Internet group. He will take over as CEO effective July 1, the company said.

Irwin Jacobs will remain the Qualcomm's chairman.

Qualcomm on Monday boosted its earnings projection for its second quarter to 26 to 28 cents, from an earlier projection of 25 to 27 cents. The quarter ends March 27.

Qualcomm makes mobile communications systems and trailer-tracking technology used by the trucking industry.

Company officials told Transport Topics in December that Qualcomm had about a 65% market share of the in-cab communications market.
