Opponents of Bigger Trucks Stage Rally, Urge Congress to Limit Vehicle Size, Weight
ASHINGTON — Opponents of bigger trucks rallied last week outside the Capitol, urging Congress to limit longer commercial vehicles, including double- and triple-trailers, on the nation’s highways.
An organization called the Coalition Against Bigger Trucks (CABT) sponsored the rally and said that its campaign against longer trucks was a safety issue. But American Trucking Associations President Bill Graves said it boiled down to economics and the rivalry between trucks and railroads.
“[This] is simply a railroad-backed effort to legislate a greater share of the freight transportation market for the railroad industry,” said Graves.
