Oil opened the week holding near $76 a barrel as European equity markets fell, Bloomberg reported Monday.
Crude futures were trading at $76.04 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, down a penny from Friday’s closing price, Bloomberg said.
Oil has closed over $80 on the Nymex just once since Oct. 23, on Nov. 4, fluctuating between $76 and $80 for the past month.
The Department of Energy will release the national average pump prices for diesel and gasoline Monday afternoon in Washington following its weekly survey of filling stations.
