Container traffic at the Port of New York and New Jersey fell last year for the first time in 15 years, the Associated Press reported.
The number of 20-foot equivalent units, or TEUs, moving in and out of the complex dropped by less than 1% last year, to 5.27 million units, AP said, citing the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey. The modest decrease was driven by steep declines in the last two months of the year.
The number of loaded TEUs plunged 25% in December, while imports dropped 11%. November exports fell 10% and imports fell 4%.
