Nikola Trucks Join Alberta Hydrogen Demo Program

Two Nikola semis are to take part in a commercial vehicle demonstration program in the Canadian province of Alberta, the truck manufacturer said April 25.
The will utilize a Tre battery electric truck and Tre hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) in its two-year Hydrogen Commercial Vehicle Demonstration Project, which kicked off Feb. 10.
AMTA’s project is the first of its kind in Canada and will test Class 8 vehicles in the harsh weather conditions Alberta is prone to, especially in winter, examining fuel cell reliability, infrastructure, and vehicle cost and maintenance, Nikola said.
Phoenix-based also will provide hydrogen fueling support for the FCEV with its mobile HYLA vehicle, the company said. The Tre BET is to be delivered by the end of April , and the FCEV is scheduled to be in Alberta by the end of the year.

AMTA also is working with Rochester, N.Y.-based truck manufacturer and Delta, British Columbia-based , which retrofits existing Class 8 trucks to use hydrogen for 40% of their fuel needs.— Transport Topics
