Navistar International Corp. and Siemens Automotive Corp. have finalized plans for a $100 million joint venture to develop and manufacture diesel fuel injectors designed to meet emission standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency for 2002.

The injectors will incorporate proprietary digital valve technology under license from Sturman Engine Systems.

Dan Ustian, group vice president for Navistar’s Engine Foundry Division, said the fuel injection system is intended for heavy-, medium- and light-duty applications.

The joint venture will be called Siemens Diesel Systems Technology. Siemens owns 51% of the venture, which is expected to reach production levels of 4 million injectors annually by 2005.

The fuel injection system is scheduled to be ready for commercial use by the 2002 model year.
