Navistar CEO Ustian Takes Over Truck Group

Navistar International Corp., the parent of International Truck and Engine Corp., said Wednesday that Chief Executive Officer Daniel C. Ustian has also assumed the operating responsibility for the company's truck group.

Navistar, Warrenville, Ill., said J. Steven Keate, who served as president of the truck group since June 1999, has left the company. Keate joined the company in 1995, and also had headed Navistar’s heavy truck operations.

Spokesman Roy Wiley told Transport Topics that Ustian would remain as head of the truck group until a replacement could be found.

Ustian became Navistar's CEO in February 2003. He replaced John Horne, who remained chairman of the company.

Previously, Ustian led Navistar’s engine operation, the company said in a release.

In February, Navistar said it lost $98 million or $1.47 per share during its 2003 fiscal first quarter.

Earlier this month, Navistar said it had reached a deal with Ford Motor Co. to end their V-6 diesel engine partnership. The company also said it would close a heavy-duty truck plant in Chatham, Ontario on July 18.
