Nafta Surface Trade Rose 14.6% in January
urface trade among the U.S., Canada and Mexico rose 14.6% in January to $52.3 billion, the Department of Transportation reported Tuesday.
Total trade among the United States’ North American Free Trade Agreement partners grew 0.5% from December to January, DOT’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics said.
Surface transportation consists largely of freight movements by truck, rail and pipeline. About 90% of U.S. trade by value with Nafta partners Canada and Mexico moves by land.
Rail imports rose 5.3% to $5.5 billion while exports jumped 22.6% to $2.1 billion. Pipeline imports rose 23% to $3.1 billion while exports leaped 229% to $122 million.
