Nafta Surface Trade Rises 5.9% in April
urface trade among the United States, Canada and Mexico rose 5.9% in April compared with a year earlier, the Department of Transportation reported Thursday.
April trade among the North American Free Trade Agreement partners included a 6.5% jump in U.S.-Canada trade and a 4.7% gain in U.S.-Mexico trade, DOT said in its monthly report.
April U.S. imports by truck rose 4% from a year earlier to $12.4 billion, while truck exports gained 6.1% to $13.7 billion.
Pipeline imports jumped 23.2% to $4.2 billion while exports fell 49.6% to $120 million, DOT said.
Surface transportation consists largely of freight movements by truck, rail and pipeline. About 90% of U.S. trade among Nafta partners moves by land.
