Class 8 truck sales took a hit in May, the second month in a row sales have been down.
May retail numbers for the heaviest trucks on the market came in at 21,047 units sold, a 6.5% drop from the same month in 1999.
The downturn should come as no surprise since analysts, watching the backlog of orders for new trucks dwindle, have been predicting a slowdown for many months.
Another sign of trouble is the 2,500 factory workers laid off so far this year by the major manufacturers.
