Lingering Engine Worries Cause Class 8 Sales to Fall

| Senior Reporteretail sales of heavy-duty trucks dropped 1.8% in June, compared with already weak sales in the corresponding month of 2002, as analysts said fleets continued to refrain from upgrading equipment because of conflicting reports about the performance of new-model engines.
However, industry officials and analysts said orders were building, which should push sales higher in coming months.
The engines in question are those built with new technologies to meet tougher U.S. emissions standards that took effect in October.
