Letter to the Editor: Rate Regulation

Instead of cutting each other’s throats over rates, we should band together and lobby Washington to get them to regulate rates.

When the independent truckers attempted this, they were not taken seriously. But if some major corporations would stand up and speak out, it would not take long. What I mean by major companies is the mid-size carriers of 50 to 700 trucks. They need to be the leaders in this attempt to bring the industry back to standard.

The reason I speak of the mid-size companies is because, in my opinion, the really big companies don’t want this to happen. If it keeps going the way it is there will be a monopoly and they will be the ones monopolizing. That means they will control rates and you will be out of business and working for them at whatever they want to pay you.

So let’s really do it; let’s pass some letters to one another. We all know about a good handful of people in other companies besides our own. Get on the phones and really talk about this issue. Use your contacts. Once one or two start, the rest will follow. Let’s save the rest of the companies from falling like the chunk of carriers that went out of business in the past 12 months.
