Letter to the Editor: Double Standards
truly understand the frustration of drivers and transportation companies concerning the double standards for automobiles and commercial vehicles. My husband and I were once owner-operators and I have seen the hazardous mistakes that automobile drivers commit.
However, just as you would hold a doctor to a higher standard for treatment than you would your mother, our drivers are professional drivers. That means that they chose to drive as a profession and must act as professionals no matter what crazy mistakes are made around them.
Their safety standards are higher because they chose this profession, not just because they drive higher-weight rigs.
