The Los Angeles Harbor Commission has approved a plan to start implementing the Port of Los Angeles’ employee driver mandate next year.
Commissioners votedMonday on a schedule that requires 20% of trips to the port be by employee drivers by Dec. 31, 2011.
That figure will move to 20% a year later, and then 100% on Dec. 31, 2013, the port said in a statement.
The plan “allows time to develop compliance systems and provide [motor carriers] ample time to begin compliance,” the port said.
American Trucking Associations filed notice Sept. 16 that it would appeal an August decision that ruled that the port’s employee-driver mandate is legal and can go forward. (Click here for previous story.)
