Knight Transportation said its first-quarter profit improved from a year ago on higher revenue.
Net income edged up to $10.5 million, or 13 cents a share, from $9.9 million, or 12 cents, a year ago.
Revenue rose 17.7% to $219.5 million, the company said in a statement late Wednesday.
The first quarter included a previously announced $4 million stock compensation charge. Excluding the charge, net income would have been $14.4 million, or 18 cents per share, the company said.
Phoenix-based Knight Transportation is ranked No. 31 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
