John W. Rollins, Founder of Rollins Leasing, Dies

John W. Rollins Sr., entrepreneur and philanthropist, died April 4 at age 83 while sleeping at his office in Wilmington, Del.

Mr. Rollins was the founder and chairman of Rollins Truck Leasing Corp., and seven of the companies that he started went on to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange. His other interests included Republican politics, sporting and the Horatio Alger Association.

Mr. Rollins touched many lives, said his son, John W. Rollins Jr. His father prided himself on developing people and giving them the opportunity to “make decisions then make them right,” he said.

Mr. Rollins was born in the small, northern Georgia town of Keith, on Aug. 24, 1916. At age 12, he and his brother Wayne ran the family farm after their father’s death.
