Industry Representatives, Government Join to Sponsor Emissions Workshop

epresentatives of the trucking industry, engine makers, refineries, environmental groups and the government have been scheduled to meet at a workshop in Chicago Aug. 6 and 7 to discuss the federal diesel emissions standards for 2007.

Engine makers must develop engines, beginning in model year 2007, that emit much lower levels of particulate matter and nitrogen oxides (NOx) than do engines produced now.

Bill Gouse, American Trucking Associations’ vice president of engineering, said many challenges must still be met in complying with the 2007 requirements.



For example, “no one knows yet how to clean a particulate filter,” he said in an interview with Transport Topics last week.
