Police Credit ‘Alert’ Trucker With Averting More Serious Crash

A two-mile stretch of Interstate 75 is “indefinitely closed” in both directions near Detroit following a large but non-fatal accident involving a tanker truck Wednesday night, the Associated Press reported.
Authorities closed the highway in both directions, from 7 Mile in the south to Interstate 696 in the north, the Detroit Free Press reported.
A car lost control and hit the tanker causing the crash, the Detroit Free Press reported, citing Michigan State Police officials.
A semitrailer truck moved out of the tanker’s way, and police credited the “alert” driver of the semi with moving to give the tanker room and avoiding a potentially more devastating crash, the Free Press reported.
Motorists are being directed Thursday to alternate routes that include the Lodge Freeway and other nearby north-south routes, and the detours could push some traffic onto I-94 in Detroit, the Free Press said.
