lawyer representing 12 states and 13 environmental groups last week challenged the Bush administration’s position that the Environmental Protection Agency cannot regulate vehicle emissions in the first-ever global warming case to be considered by the U.S. Supreme Court.

While this case is specific to carbon dioxide, it could eventually give the federal government power to regulate truck idling, Glen Kedzie, environmental counsel for American Trucking Associations, told Transport Topics.

He estimated trucks contribute about 4% of the nation’s total greenhouse gas emissions.
