Hess Corp., the U.S. oil producer widely known for its signature green-and-white toy trucks, said the release of a collection of new miniature vehicles was delayed because of trade tariffs.
We are delaying the release of the 2025 Miniature Collection, previously scheduled for June 2, to best accommodate recent shifts in tariff policies, Hess said in an email to customers May 13. A new release date will be announced as soon as we can.
About 80% of toys sold in the U.S. are made in China, which was hit with import tariffs of 145% after President Donald Trump announced his new trade policy last month. His administration this week reduced the levy to 30% for 90 days to allow time for the two countries to reach a broader agreement. Even if tensions continue to ease, the uncertainty injected into global supply chains will likely linger as retailers begin ordering for the busy end-of-year period.
Leon Hess founded Hess Corp. 92 years ago with a secondhand truck delivering fuel oil during the Great Depression. For the past six decades, the company has sold small replicas of its trucks, as well as helicopters, police cars, airplanes, space shuttles and rescue vehicles.
Chevron Corp.s takeover of Hess, which was announced in 2023, is still pending. Hess has said it will keep selling the toy trucks following the completion of the acquisition.
A Hess spokesperson didnt immediately comment on the delay when contacted by Bloomberg.
