ruckers will remain ineligible for overtime pay under new legislation signed Friday by Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm (D), the Associated Press reported.
The legislation is meant to close a loophole that existed under previous laws that created a way for normally ineligible workers to earn overtime pay when the state’s minimum wage was higher than the Federal level of $5.15 an hour, AP said.
The new law, which will go into effect Oct. 1, raises Michigan’s minimum wage to $6.95 an hour from $5.15 and hour, AP reported.
Michigan lawmakers approved the new legislation in early September. (Click here for previous coverage.)
