uality Distribution Inc. said its chairman and chief executive officer, Thomas Finkbiner, resigned and will be replaced by Gerald Detter, former CEO of Con-Way Transportation Services, effective Monday.

Detter had retired in December when Douglas Stotlar became CEO of Con-Way, a less-than-truckload carrier. Detter had since then been an adviser at CNF Inc., Con-Way's parent company. (Click here for previous coverage.)

Stotlar was subsequently promoted to chief executive officer at CNF in late April.

Detter said in a statement he was looking forward to working with Quality, the largest tank truck carrier in North America.

Quality Distribution lost $10.7 million or 57 cents a share last year, following a $71 million loss or $12.51 a share in 2003.

Quality is ranked No. 33 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
