Geotab Launches AI Dashcam to Enhance Fleet Safety

[Stay on top of transportation news: .]
Fleet telematics vendor Geotab has launched a new dash camera and video intelligence platform designed to proactively prevent crashes by instantly alerting drivers when the system detects unsafe driving behaviors.
This dual-facing dashcam, named the GO Focus Plus, utilizes artificial intelligence to identify risky habits such as tailgating and distracted and fatigued driving. It also provides in-cab verbal alerts to drivers to self-correct unsafe actions before a crash occurs.
In a recent pilot, this voice coaching functionality helped reduce tailgating by 90% and mobile phone use by 95%, Geotab said in the Sept. 15 announcement.
“By uniting the power of video with Geotab data intelligence, we are providing drivers with an in-cab partner that helps them correct risks instantly,” said Charlie Elliott, Geotab’s senior vice president of marketing and marketplace. “This system empowers fleet managers to move beyond reactive incident review and instead foster a culture of safety that protects their most valuable asset, which is their people.”

The AI video intelligence identifies and highlights the most urgent risks and repeat patterns, enabling fleet managers to efficiently review the footage and provide targeted driver coaching.
The video intelligence system is designed to minimize false alerts, which helps build trust with drivers and ensures that fleet managers receive notification only for the most critical events, the company said.
Geotab said its video intelligence platform is built to continuously evolve. Its AI models refine its event detection and driver coaching automatically with each update. The platform’s open architecture is designed to support an expanding array of cameras, with new models and capabilities planned in the coming months.
Geotab, based in Oakville, Ontario, and Atlanta, provides connected vehicle and asset technology to more than 55,000 customers globally and processes 100 billion data points per day from more than 5 million vehicle subscriptions.
