A 37-year-old motor carrier will close its doors before Thanksgiving, largely due to high diesel prices.

W.C. McQuaide Inc. of Johnstown, Pa., will cease operations for its less-than-truckload division by Nov. 22. However, the company’s other two divisions — truckload carriage and logistics — will continue.

Stan R. McQuaide, the company’s vice president of operations, said the LTL operations were losing enough money that they were endangering the other two transportation operations, which are profitable.

“The situation with diesel has been tough, and I think it’s just going to get worse,” he said. “We had a fuel surcharge in place, but we didn’t get enough off of it.”
