Trucking should not expect a slackening of commercial vehicle safety inspections and compliance reviews anytime soon, warned a federal official who oversees the industry.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration will continue to require its inspectors to conduct four to five compliance reviews of motor carriers each month, Julie A. Cirillo, the agency’s chief safety officer, said in a June 9 speech to transportation writers at the National Press Club.

“The requirement we put in place last April that investigators conduct four or five quality inspections each month will stay in effect until further notice,” she said.

“We intend to remain very aggressive,” Cirillo said, adding that the agency is getting good results as carriers realize the laws are being enforced.
