number of fleets are using technology and services from third-party providers to help manage driver screening and hiring processes.

USIS Commercial Services, formerly DAC Services, recently rolled out a Web-based program that allows fleets to store information on job applicants and to automatically respond to requests from other employers.

USIS is the largest provider of background screening services to the trucking industry and keeps information on more than five million commercially licensed drivers.

About 2,500 motor carriers participate in the USIS employment history database and about 30 companies currently use the DAC Online system, said Kent Ferguson, product manager, proprietary databases, for USIS in Tulsa, Okla.
