SAN DIEGO — Transportation and safety executives outlined how they’ve improved safety, efficiency and driver satisfaction in their fleet operations through technology implementation during Samsara’s 2025 user conference.

Private fleet operator Mohawk Industries, the world’s largest flooring manufacturer, has reduced paperwork and created better truck routes and more accurate estimated arrival times for its customers by deploying some of Samsara’s latest products and features, Andy Yearout, the company’s senior vice president of supply chain, said during the conference’s opening session on June 24.

Digitizing workflows has enabled the private carrier to address an overflow of paper documents, such as customer invoices, inspection reports and payroll sheets.

“When you looked in the cab of our trucks, it looked like they needed a filing cabinet,” Yearout said.

Mohawk also achieved significant savings by implementing Samsara’s new routing and navigation capabilities while also working closely with its drivers to incorporate their knowledge of routes, customers and traffic into the route planning process.

“We took out over 4 million miles per year, and net of the investment we made, we saved the organization almost $8 million per year,” Yearout said.

The technology also has improved the company’s relationship with its drivers, he added, in part by enabling managers to celebrate and reward good performance.

“It let our superstars shine and it let us recognize them,” Yearout said, adding that Mohawk has reinvested savings from the technology implementation into its driver recognition program.

Mohawk, based in Calhoun, Ga., ranks No. 77 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest private carriers in North America.

Kathleen Eaton, vice president of safety, energy and building services at The ϳԹ Depot, said dashcams have yielded measurable safety benefits for its delivery drivers and for technicians as they travel to perform on-site maintenance work. She cited an 80% reduction in accidents for the delivery fleet and a 60% reduction in claims with its technicians.

“Our associates simply become better drivers behind the wheel,” Eaton said.

ϳԹ Depot, which ranks No. 50 on the private TT100, also is testing Samsara’s new wearable safety device to help protect lone workers as they make deliveries and visit job sites.
