Federal buildings across the U.S. have been ordered to shut off electric vehicle chargers, according to a person familiar with the matter, the latest move to rescind pro-EV initiatives in President Donald Trump’s first months in office.
The General Services Administration, which oversees properties and vehicle fleets for the government, sent an email to agencies in recent days discussing the plan, according to the person, who asked not to be identified discussing nonpublic communication. Federally owned charging stations, which are used both for government vehicles and workers’ personal cars, will no longer be considered “mission critical,” the GSA said.
The GSA, an independent agency, didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
