The rule would apply to diesel fuel sold on and after June 1, 2006.
According to an agency spokesman, about 7,000 “mostly positive comments” have been received on the proposal to reduce the amount of fine diesel particulate, which can be inhaled into the lungs, and the amount of emissions that can mingle in the atmosphere to produce smog.
