EPA to Widen ULSD Testing, Expand Credits for Early Production
Andrea Fischer
| Staff Reporterhe Environmental Protection Agency said it would relax its testing tolerance limits for ultra-low-sulfur diesel and allow refiners to trade credits earned through early ULSD production over a wider area.
Both moves were aimed at ensuring that a broad supply of ULSD is available, trucking and fuel representatives said.
EPA requires diesel refiners to begin making fuel with sulfur of no more than 15 parts per million by June and retailers to sell ULSD by mid-October. Trucks sold after Jan. 1, 2007, require the fuel.
