EPA: Refiners Intend to Make Enough Low-Sulfur Diesel Fuel
CHICAGO — Environmental Protection Agency officials said last week that reports from refiners have assured them that the trucking industry can count on having enough ultra-low-sulfur diesel fuel available in 2006 to meet their fleets’ needs.
EPA’s 2006 fuel regulation requires that diesel with no more than 15 parts per million of sulfur must be available to meet engine emissions requirements that go into effect in 2007.
“The bottom line is that refiners will meet the fuel standards in greater amounts than anticipated,” said Margaret Oge, director of the EPA Office of Transportation and Air Quality.
