EPA Proposes Onboard Diagnostic Rule for 2010 Engines
he U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is proposing a rule requiring onboard diagnostic systems on heavy-duty trucks starting in 2010.
The proposal would require the emissions control systems of large highway diesel and gasoline trucks to be monitored for malfunctions via OBD systems similar to those that have been required on passenger cars since the mid-1990s, EPA said on its Web site Wednesday.
This proposal also makes changes to certain existing OBD requirements for smaller highway heavy-duty diesel trucks, the agency said.
